New Tech Speeds Fast-Food Lines

Eating lunch is all about watching the clock, and the food industry is sampling all sorts of technologies to move lines more quickly through the payment bottleneck.
At the forefront is McDonald's, the nation's largest fast-food chain, which this month began testing a system from FreedomPay Inc. that uses radio frequency identification devices (RFIDs) linked to a credit or debit card.
Consumers just wave a small plastic cylinder, similar to the Mobil SpeedPass, at the register or drive-through.
Payment is processed in less than 15 seconds, and the company gets the data on who you are and what you bought.
FreedomPay also is teaming with Compass Canteen, the world's largest vending machine company, to allow 50,000 vending machines to accept cashless payments by next year.
