Chip sales continue slow growth
반도체 판매 서서히 증가
Worldwide sales of semiconductors totaled $11.37 billion in May, a 2.8 percent increase from the $11.07 billion level reached in April, with broad-based growth in all product sectors except for computation, according to figures Monday from the Semiconductor Industry Association.
반도체산업협회에서 월요일 발표한 수치에 따르면 컴퓨터를 제외한 모든 제품 분야에서 광범위한 성장이 이루어져 5월 전세계적인 반도체 판매액은 총 113억 7천만 달러를 기록해 110억 7천만달러에 그쳤던 지난 4월에 비해 2.8% 증가한 것으로 나타났다.

"Continued steady growth across the industry is exhibited in May chip sales and, as announced in our forecast last month, we expect the industry to close the second quarter with growth of 4.7 percent," says George Scalise, president of the San Jose-based trade association. "While the computation sector is down, all other sectors including wireless and consumer continue to thrive. This increase drove the sales of such products as Flash, digital signal processors, application specific products and analog."

In June, the SIA released its mid-year market forecast, which outlines what it sees as an industry-wide recovery currently under way. Semiconductor sales are expected to increase by 3.1 percent in 2002 with increases of approximately 9 percent in both the third and fourth quarters. The SIA expects the growth rate to accelerate to 23.2 percent in 2003 with wireless and digital consumer products leading the growth of sales.
6월에 반도체산업협회는 중간 시장 전망을 발표했는데, 현재의 흐름을 업계전반에 걸쳐 경기 회복이 진행되고 있는 징후라고 규정했다. 반도체산업협회는 반도체 판매가 3/4, 4/4 분기에 걸쳐 약 9% 증가해 2002년에는 3.1% 증가할 것이라고 전망했다. 이 협회는 2003년에는 무선통신과 디지털 소비재가 판매 증진을 이끌어 성장률이 23.2%까지 증가할 것이라고 내다봤다.
