Napster Hopes To Rise from Ashes ±â»çȸ»ý ²Þ²Ù´Â Napster
Napster, the P2P site that launched the file-swapping era, is set for a relaunch on Thursday. But this time the site hopes to help create a new era -- one in which Web surfers pay for downloads.

Dubbed "Napster 2.0" by its new owner, software company Roxio, the site will reopen on a test basis with 500,000 songs, a library that rivals that of any other legal service. The company has not yet announced pricing, but says it will be the first to offer both per-song downloads and a premium subscription service.

In its new iteration, Napster is anything but an outlaw. Microsoft will embed the service into its Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004. And Roxio has partnered with Samsung to produce a new audio player optimized for Napster 2.0.
