BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq expects to resume oil exports in a matter of weeks although satisfying local demand was the priority, a senior Iraqi oil official said on Saturday.

"We are having some obstacles, mainly in telecommunications. By two to three weeks Iraq will be back in the market," Thamir Ghadhban, Director of the oil ministry, told a news conference at a U.S. military headquarters.

But the main concern of oil planners, the director said, was to meet local demand for refined products, especially gasoline, whose shortages have provoked anger. Iraq consumes more than 3.9 million gallons of gasoline a day, but local production at present is less than half of that.
