Plan to battle hooliganism signed
Berlin (AP) = Officials from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands signed a joint declaration Wednesday on measures intended to prevent hooligans from interfering with this summer's European Championship. The agreement between the three neighbors provides a wide-ranging list of steps, such as police escorts for traveling fans and more efficient exchange of information. ``I want the European Championship to be a peaceful soccer festival,'' German Interior Minister Otto Schily said. ``This championship must not be disturbed or threatened by rowdies or criminals.'' Belgium and the Netherlands are co-hosts of the 16-nation quadrennial tournament, scheduled for June 10 - July 2, while Germany has some of the most notorious hooligans.
